Learn How to say “its ok to” and “it’s ok not to” in Japanese

To use it successfully, remember this new grammar call -temoても. Very useful when you want to inform someone if its ok to do something or its ok not to do something. Let’s get to the examples

ぜんぶ たべなくても いい です - Its ok not to eat everything.

のんでも いい です - Its ok to drink it.

Words to learn

ぜんぶ、全部 - all, everything

いい - good, alright, ok, fine

Explanation

The first thing you should do is to convert your verbs into a -て form. After that add the も いいbehind it. If you want to say it in the negative form, just change the verb into a ない form and then change the ない form into a て form again.

So what does the も means? Its actually another particle that has the same meaning to “also”. So in the example above shown, it could literally be translated this way “Its also fine that you don’t eat up everything” And to make it into a question, just add the か after the です. So you get:

ぜんぶ たべても いい ですか? - Is it ok to eat?

You may even remove the も particle and add か after the です, you still get the same meaning.
